Dothan Home Security
Dothan is in the southeast corner of the state of Alabama. Located just 20 miles west of the Georgia state line and 18 miles north of Florida, Dothan is the county seat of Houston County. This is the largest town in this part of the state and calls itself the Peanut Capital of the World. Around ¼ of the world’s supply of this crop is grown in nearby areas and most of them are processed within the city. In 2006, Dothan was named number one on the US News and Report cheapest city to live. Dothan’s population has about 6% unemployment. The rate of violent crimes in the city is well below the national average, but crimes against property are slightly above that average.
Protecting Your Property
Crimes that are not considered violent in nature do not often get the attention that they should. It should be noted that that in terms of insurance and replacement costs, these crimes may cost as much or more than others. They can also ruin the sense of security that a person should have in their own home.
- Make sure that your home owner’s insurance policy covers the cost of repairs, including the cost of glass replacement
- Check your home frequently, including basement windows so that there is no access for thieves.
Dothan Home Security Issues
Dothan residents should take a very proactive step toward their own home security by installing and using a home security system that allows twenty four hour, live monitoring. Some systems use automation after hours and are only staffed part time.
